From passion to profit: how Michael Chukwu built his logistics business – Businessday NG

For Michael Chukwu, CEO at WILG SWIFT, things were never about logistics, they were about transportation.

What began as a deep desire to solve everyday business problems has grown into a creative business built on strength, innovation, and an unwavering drive to deliver excellence.

Michael, who is from Abia State, although his business operates from Lagos, and offers delivery all over the country, his business is based on strength and determination to ensure that the transport of people and goods are met and on time.

To realize his vision, he puts some motorcycles to last mile delivery and also offers delivery services, intra-state, inter-state, and inter-state.

“My journey in this business was driven by a strong desire to create solutions and build systems that work well. I have always been motivated by the idea of turning problems into opportunities, and starting this business allowed me to channel that desire into something impactful.

“I was inspired to get into this business after seeing the problems faced by people and companies with late delivery and poor performance. I believed that there was a place to build a manufacturing company that combines speed, transparency, and good customer service. That vision pushed me to take the step of not being afraid to enter the business,” he said.

With no real money set for the business, but sheer determination, he used his rented house to buy a good used motorcycle to start a business, and dedication, and ideas, the company does not trust the fairness of used bikes, but now he buys new motorcycles; he dared to say, “We are growing!”

Michael emphasized that although there are many factors that encourage business visibility and service delivery, what distinguishes WILG SWIFT from other competitors, focuses on reliability, structure, and measurable results.

“We don’t just guarantee speed, we build systems that guarantee consistency, accountability, and customer satisfaction. Our operations are process-driven, our communications are transparent, and we take every customer’s business seriously. What sets us apart is our commitment to customer experience. We combine technology with human responsiveness.

“Our riders are well organized, communication is timely, and we maintain tight delivery times. We don’t just deliver packages, we build trust. Most startups focus on growth; we focus on service excellence. What differentiates us is consistency, accountability, and customer-facing execution. We don’t compete on sound, we don’t compete on performance,” he said.

According to Michael, the business has grown from a one-man team to a seven-man visionary team within a year of its inception, which he said is not unusual. In addition, they revealed that they have plans to open branches all over the country, and to buy more vehicles for the public.

In the midst of rising costs, Michael adopted a strategy focused on cost control, efficiency, and dynamic pricing.

He explained that the company continues to review its use of resources, especially fuel for transportation and maintenance, and to improve transportation methods to reduce waste.

“Besides that, we have established a pricing structure that allows us to make adjustments without compromising the quality of service.

“Long-term cooperation helps reduce the impact of inflation compared to relying only on one-off transactions,” he explained.

Speaking about the business environment in Nigeria, he revealed that the ecosystem is dynamic and resilient, but also challenging.

“We are faced with problems such as the lack of foreign currency, poor stability of foreign currency, poor infrastructure, and low oil prices.

“However, despite these challenges, Nigeria remains one of the most promising markets in Africa due to its population, growing business ecosystem, and expanding digital economy,” he said.

On how he managed to overcome obstacles in business, he said, “I learned that problems are inevitable in business, but with strong planning, discipline, and a positive attitude, they can be turned into opportunities for growth.”

Michael warns budding entrepreneurs that business is not just about making money.

“It’s about solving problems, creating performance, and building something that transcends you,” he emphasized.
